Barbara Tewell is responsible for creating color and life to make our entrance beautiful and inviting. She maintains the flowers and gardens around the property.
Barb grew up in a small farming community, and raised her own veggies; her mother was an avid flower gardener, dad made all the beds and gardens, and her sister and she kept them weeded and hoed. Therefore, their 1.5 acres was a large food and flower garden. Composting and recycling was a way of life 60-70 years ago and they were raised with “Waste not, want not!” as the wells could easily run dry in July.
Barb’s husband, a CPA, had several clients who were nurserymen, and she, in hospital management, dreamed of owning a garden center. That became a reality in 1996 with the purchase of Roper Mtn Nursery. They relocated to Tanner Rd in 2000 and renamed the business The Garden Treasury. They lived the dream for 15 years and retired for a second time in March of 2011. Barb shares, “I never realized that all the lessons learned growing up about mulching and conserving water would be the basis of a livelihood in my later years!”
We’ve very grateful Barb continues caring for our place and now sharing her knowledge and experience online with our patients.
Barb is available for consulting or private maintenance. You may reach her directly at 864-238-0503.
